Pre-Season Ends with Shootout Loss

FLORENCE, SC -- The Pee Dee Pride ended the pre-season with a 3-2 shootout loss to the South Carolina Stingrays Saturday night at the Florence Civic Center.

South Carolina scored the lone goal of the opening period, as Joey Tenute converted on a power play at the 11:52 mark.

The Pride went ahead with a pair of goals midway through the second period. Kyle Kidney netted the first goal at 12:04, off of assists from Allan Sirois and Nathan Rosychuk. Pee Dee went ahead 3:49 later as Pat O'Leary took advantage of a bad hop off of the boards and put the puck into an empty net for a power-play goal.

It stayed that way until thw 14:32 mark of the third period, when Mark Ardelan converted on a power play for the Stingrays.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Down one goal with just one shooter left, the Pride extended the shootout to sudden death as Darryl Green found the back of the net. South Carolina's Ed Courtenay scored in the sixth round, and Kirk Daubenspeck ended the game, stopping the Pride's sixth shooter, Kevin Cooper.

Opening Weekend 2004 is right around the corner! Friday the Pride host the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come to the game early to tailgate in the civic center parking lot while listening to the music of local band Paradigm. All fans in attendance will receive a free rally towel courtesy of Wachovia Bank.

On Saturday, the Pride host the Augusta Lynx, also at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Pride magnetic schedule courtesy of SCE&G. Following the game, the Pride in conjunction with Archadeck of the Pee Dee; BB&T; Griggs, Floyd & Grantham; and Micky Finn's present the Blue Dogs in concert.

Group tickets for all Pride home games are now available. In addition to receiving discounted tickets, groups of 15 or more are also eligible for group raffles, and will have their name announced over the PA system and printed in the game-day program.
