October 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Pensacola Ice Pilots tallied three third period goals to beat the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-1 at the Pensacola Civic Center on Saturday night in Gwinnett's final preseason game in preparation for the 2004-05 season.
The Gladiators jumped out to an early 1-0 led as Rob Fried's wrist shot from the top of the left wing faceoff circle found its way through traffic and into the back of the net. Brad Schell added an assist on the goal at 4:24 of the opening period.
Pensacola tied the contest up 79 seconds later as Dwayne Hay picked up a rebound in the slot and flipped the puck past Gladiators netminder T.J. Aceti. Aaron Phillips added an assist on the Pensacola tally.
In the second period, Pensacola out-shot Gwinnett by a 2-to-1 margin but Gladiators goaltender T.J. Aceti stood tall turning aside all 14 shots including three power play opportunities for the IcePilots.
Ravi Tanna replaced Aceti at the beginning of the third period and Pensacola broke the 1-1 tie 44 seconds into the period as Ryan Vince jammed a loose puck into the net to give the Ice Pilots the lead.
Chris St. Jacques added an insurance tally at the 9:44 mark of the third period with a bad angle shot that beat Tanna, giving the Ice Pilots a 3-1 lead. Dwayne Hay picked up a helper on the tally.
Pensacola added an empty net goal with 18 seconds left in the third period as the Gladiators pulled Tanna in favor of an extra attacker. Jason Beckett fed Aaron Phillip for the goal.
Both team were unsuccessful on the man advantage as Aceti made a team high 24 saves for the Gladiators in the contest.
The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators begin their second season on the road October 22nd, before hosting in-state rival Augusta on Friday, October 29th at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators offer several ticket packages for different needs as well as group outings, suites and birthday parties.
