Pre-Game Notes

November 4, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

Game Notes:

Prince of the Week

67's left winger Shane Prince was named OHL Player of the Week after recording seven assists in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2 for the week ending October 30. Prince was an integral part in wins over Peterborough and Mississauga this past weekend for the Barberpoles.

Toffoli on Torrid Pace

67's right winger Tyler Toffoli had an OHL high and personal best 57 goals this past season. Through his first 12 games of his best OHL season he had notched 6 goals, through the first 12 games of the 2011-2012 season - Toffoli has 13 goals. The 2010 Kings second round pick has always been a dominant OHL sniper but this season he has stepped it up a notch and is looking to push the envelope as he continues to further establish himself as one of the best goal scorers in 67's history.

Broussard Meet Barberpole Nation, Barberpole Nation Meet Broussard

67's GM Chris Byrne acquired steady overage defenseman Daniel Broussard from the Sarnia Sting for a 2012 third round pick in the OHL Entry Draft. Broussard, known for his physical stopgap play will be a welcome addition to the 67's lineup. Broussard, who calls Fayetteville, North Carolina home joins the 67's after spending his entire 182 game OHL career with the Sting. During his time with the Sting he picked up 31 points (5g, 26a) and added 147 penalty minutes. Broussard, wearing #3 for the first time last evening, picked up an assist on Taylor Fielding's first goal of the season, the assist was his first point as a 67 on his first shift in a 6-5 overtime loss to Belleville.

Four 67's Named to OHL Team for Subway Super Series

Cody Ceci, Tyler Graovac, Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli will all be on familiar ground, or ice, when team OHL hosts Team Russia on Thursday, November 10th at the J. Benson Cartage Center. The four 67's standouts will join other OHL stars as they look to enact revenge for Team Russia's dramatic come from behind victory over Canada in the gold medal game at the 2011 World Juniors in Buffalo. This game will surely be a prospect showcase on all accounts as both teams will feature both currently drafted and soon to be drafted junior stars. Team Russia will likely feature the services of potential first overall 2012 NHL pick and leading OHL scorer Nail Yakupov (Sarnia Sting), this will be only game that Yakupov participates in for his native Russia for the Subway Series. He is one player that fans should definitely keep an eye on.

Game Notes:

Age is only a Number

The Soo Greyhounds GM, Kyle Dubas, checks in as the youngest GM in junior hockey and perhaps all of the major sports in North America. The 25 year old native of Sault Ste. Marie has already established himself as competitor and the Greyhounds early season success is a testament to the new regime in the Soo. Before taking over as GM of the Greyhounds in the summer, Dubas, was listed as the youngest person ever certified to be an agent for the NHLPA.

Campbell heads North

Just yesterday, the Greyhounds acquired Windsor Spitfires starting goaltender Jack Campbell for Patrick Sieloff, Mackenzie Braid, two third round picks, three second round picks and a conditional pick. Campbell, a 2010 first round NHL pick (11th overall) to the Dallas Stars is off to a great start with the Spitfires with a 6-3-2 record and joins an already strong Greyhound squad.

Local Talent

Corey Durocher, hails from Ottawa and is in his first season with the Greyhounds after spending the previous two with the Kingston Frontenacs.

5th Annual Weiner Dog Race (sponsored by Milk Bone) is being held on Sunday, November 6th. Be sure to catch the hilarious action as the tiny dogs take the ice!
