Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pa. - Greg McKegg tied the game for the Erie Otters with ten and a half seconds remaining and Derek Holden scored the game-winner in the shootout to give the Otters a thrilling 3-2 win on the road against the Guelph Storm Friday night.
Stephen Harper started the scoring for the Otters as he deflected a Sondre Olden shot from the high slot for his fifth goal of the season five minutes and 51 seconds into the game.
The Storm tied the game 55 seconds into the second as Brock McGinn tallied his second goal of the season. They would take the lead six minutes and 15 seconds into the third courtesy of a Hunter Garlent tally.
The tight game set up a wild finish in which the Otters believed they had tied the game with 23 seconds to go, but the referees blew the play dead on a delayed penalty to the Storm. On the ensuing power play, McKegg stuffed in a wraparound with 10.5 seconds to go to tie the game, his first goal since October 1.
After an overtime which the Otters controlled, the shootout was tied at one going into the final round, featuring dazzling dekes and saves by both teams. After Tanner Richard was stopped by Ramis Sadikov, Holden kept it simple and fired a wrist shot through the blocker side to seal the win for Erie.
Sadikov was sensational for Erie, who earned back-to-back wins for the first time season, as he made 43 saves and earned first star honors.
Pucks and Paws Night returns to Tullio Arena Saturday, November 5 when the Otters host the London Knights. Fans who bring in dog/cat food, treats or toys will receive a ticket to the Otters game for November 11. Tickets for the game can be purchased at The A.N.N.A. Shelter (1555 East 10th Street) for $10.00 with proceeds from the sales going to The A.N.N.A. Shelter. The Otters will also wear A.N.N.A. Shelter-themed jerseys.
