The Owen Sound Attack is announcing October's Molson Canadian Performers of the Month which include Gemel Smith, Artur Gavrus, Matt Petgrave and Mike Halmo.
Molson Canadian Rookie of the Month - Artur Gavrus
Artur Gavrus led all OHL rookies in scoring with 13 points in 11 October games for the Owen Sound Attack scoring eight goals and five assists. He recorded three multi-point games including his first career hat-trick on October 10 in a 6-3 win over the Saginaw Spirit where he was named first star of the game. Gavrus finished October with a six-game point streak.
Gavrus, a 17-year-old from Belarus was selected by the Attack in the first round of the 2011 CHL Import Draft 55th overall. The 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 16 games so far this season and was named the Ontario Hockey League's Rookie of the Month for October.
Molson Canadian Defenseman of the Month - Matt Petgrave
Matt Petgrave led all Attack defenseman in scoring during October, compiling 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points in 10 games. The Brampton native finished the month with a +1 rating and was also named to participate for team OHL in the Sault Ste. Marie leg of the Subway Super Series.
The 19 year old has 4 goals and 11 assists in 15 games this season and sits 3rd amongst Ontario Hockey League defenseman in scoring.
Molson Canadian Hardest Worker of the Month - Michael Halmo
The Attack's overage Captain had a stellar month, scoring 6 times while adding 7 assists for 13 points in 13 games played while collecting a +4 rating. The Wateloo native was named the Dickies Clothing Hardest Working Player of the Game on October 22nd vs. Sault Ste. Marie and currently sits 4th in the Ontario Hockey League with 48 Penalty Minutes.
The bruising forward is also on pace to set a career high in points and currently has 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points in 18 games.
Molson Canadian Player of the Month - Gemel Smith
Smith spent the month of October puzzling the opposition with his fast skating and slick hands. In 13 October games, Smith tallied 8 goals and 12 assists for 20 points while finishing with a +3 rating. The centre has also caught the eyes of many scouts and scouting services and is a projected high end pick for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Smith's performance included 3 powerplay goals, 2 shorthanded goals and one game winning goal.
The 17 year old currently sits 16th in Ontario Hockey League scoring, 1 point back of teammate Daniel Catenacci.
