Power Wins Second Half Division Title

(Charleston, W.V. - August 30, 2015) - The West Virginia Power defeated the Lexington Legends 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. With the victory, the Power clinched the second half championship in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.

Francisco Diaz matched his career-best hit streak and gave West Virginia the early lead in the second inning. The Power backup catcher pulled a double to left, which scored Chase Simpson from first, and the Power took a 1-0 advantage.

Austin Coley surrendered the only run of his outing in the sixth. After Michael Hill hit a one-out triple off the wall in right, he scored on an Austin Bailey RBI double to tie the game at one.

West Virginia took the lead on Lexington in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Kevin Kramer hit a single to right which scored Tyler Filliben and, two batters later, Jerrick Suiter drew a bases loaded walk to score Kevin Newman. With the bags still full, Elvis Escobar hit a sac fly to plate Michael Suchy and the Power scored its final run of the inning on a Chase Simpson RBI single to left.

Coley picked received a no-decision after seven innings of one-run ball. The 23-year-old surrendered four hits and struck out five. In relief, Jared Lakind (2-0) earned the win while Nick Green (0-2) took the loss.

West Virginia (44-18, 81-50) continues the final homestand with game two against Lexington (23-37, 54-76) on Monday night. LHP Stephen Tarpley (12-5, 2.11) will take the hill for the Power against RHP Scott Blewett (2-5, 5.33). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is slated for 6:45 p.m.

Monday's game is the last Family Buck Night of the 2015 regular season. Fans can get into Appalachian Power Park with $1 general admission seating or with box seats for $3. Additionally, concession specials will be available for $1.
