Power win sixth in a row

Eastlake, OH (June 3, 2006) - The West Virginia Power held off another late rally from the Lake County Captains on Saturday afternoon at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio to win their sixth game in a row, beating the Captains 7-6.

For the second game in a row the Captains scored first in the second inning on a solo homerun from Josh Noviskey. In the top of the third the Power tied it up a 1-1 on Darren Ford's run scoring double. The Captains took a 3-1 lead in the home half of the third inning. Matt Fornasiere grounded into a double play but brought in the go ahead run and John Drennen smacked an RBI single to complete the two run frame. The lead held until the Power offense scored three runs with two outs in the seventh inning on an RBI double from Tony Festa and a two run homer from Ryan Crew, his second of the year. The Power added to the lead in the eighth inning on Mat Gamel's two run triple, and Gamel scored later in the inning on Mike Bell's Sacrifice Fly.

Down 7-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Captains began their attempt at a comeback. Johnny Drennen hit a solo homerun and Nuiman Romero walked with the bases loaded to make it a two run game. In the ninth inning, with a runner on first base and two outs, Josh Noviskey doubled down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Omar Casillas reached on an infield single to score Nick Petrucci and moved the tying run to third base. With runners at the corners and two outs, Joe Thatcher struck out Fernando Pacheco to end the game.

Patrick Ryan (1-1) pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win, Joe Thatcher (8) earned the save and Michael Finocchi (4-1) obtained the loss. The Power are 30-23 after the win and the Captains fell to 24-31 with the loss.

The Power will finish the four game series against the Lake County Captains at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio on Sunday afternoon. Lake County will start right hander Frank Herrmann (1-2, 5.67) and the Power will counter with left hander Derek Miller (5-1, 2.73). The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
