Charleston, SC -Juan Apodaca and Shane Justis, the number eight and nine batters in the Columbus order, combined to score seven runs on four hits as the Columbus Catfish defeated the Charleston RiverDogs, 10-4, in South Atlantic League action Saturday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The Catfish scored the game's final eight runs after Charleston had built a 4-2 lead through three innings.

With the victory, the Catfish earned a series split with the RiverDogs and improved to 29-27 overall. Charleston lost for the ninth time in 12 meetings against Columbus this season and fell to an even .500, 28-28, overall.

Columbus went out in front 1-0 in the first inning as leadoff man Adam Godwin manufactured a run. Godwin chopped an infield single down the first baseline and then stole second.

RiverDogs starting pitcher Wilkins Arias then attempted a pickoff throw that ended up in centerfield advancing Godwin to third, and he came home to score as centerfielder Austin Jackson overran the ball for the second error on the play.

Charleston took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the opening frame as Ben Jones launched his fourth home run of the season that traveled 400-plus feet to centerfield, clearing the Riley Park batter's eye. The blast plated Jackson who led the inning off with a single.

Columbus answered in the top of the second as Justis hit his first round-tripper of the season, knotting the game at two.

With one out in the third Jackson knocked his second base hit of the game and Marcos Vechionacci followed with a walk. After a Jose Tabata strikeout, Jones launched a 3-1 pitch down the left field line for a base-clearing double, giving Charleston a 4-2 lead. It would be the final tally for the RiverDogs in the contest.

David Seccombe relieved Arias in the fourth and gave up four runs on just three hits to put the Catfish ahead in the contest 6-4. Columbus sent nine men to the plate in an inning highlighted by an RBI single from Russ Mitchell and a two-run double by Jason Mooneyham.

Seccombe was charged with two more runs in the fifth as Justis, the second batter in the inning, brought home Apodaca with an RBI double. Following a sacrifice bunt by Godwin, Ivan DeJesus sent a fly ball to right that served as a sacrifice fly as Justis came in from third.

Columbus added their final two runs of the game in the seventh inning off reliever Abel Gomez.

Catfish starter Marlon Arias (6-3) went six innings in beating the RiverDogs for the third time this season, allowing four runs on five hits, while waking two and recording ten strikeouts.

Seccombe (2-3) took the loss lasting just 1.2 innings allowing six runs, four earned, on four hits, while walking one, striking out one, and hitting two batters.

Columbus was offensively led by Justis, who came in to the contest batting .189. In the game he went three-for-four with a home run and four runs scored.

Jackson paced Charleston's attack going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Jones went two-for-four with four runs batted in.

The RiverDogs have a day off Sunday, then begin a quick four-game road trip to Greenville's new West End Field, beginning Monday night. Left-hander Zach Kroenke (3-2) is scheduled to pitch in the opener, with begins at 7:05 p.m.
