Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, is excited to announce that they will host a free Jr. Home Run Derby competition at Appalachian Power Park for local area youth on Saturday, April 27, following their game against the Asheville Tourists.
Per Major League Baseball, "This fun and exciting youth competition is a free way for talented youngsters to showcase their hitting abilities, with the opportunity of competing at the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week."
Anyone under the age of 14 is permitted to sign up for the Derby. Participants must come to the ballpark April 27 to sign up, and must bring a copy of their birth certificate with them. A parent/guardian must also be present to fill out a registration/waiver form before the competition begins. Every kid that signs up will receive a free ticket to that day's Power home game.
Boys and girls will be divided into two age divisions, 12-and-under and 14-and-under. Winners from both divisions will move on to the Regional Level, and Regional Champions will earn the right to compete in the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week.
For questions concerning the competition, please contact our Local Coordinator, Hannah Frenchick, at hfrenchick @wvpower.com.
Following their seven-game road swing through South Carolina and Kentucky, West Virginia returns home to Appalachian Power Park for their home opener against the Augusta GreenJackets April 11. The Power's opening homestand kicks off with a Rock 105 Thirsty Thursday, where fans of age can get $2.00 cans and 20-ounce draft beers, while college students can purchase two tickets for the price of one with a valid student ID at the box office. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a 2019 magnet schedule, while everyone can enjoy a fireworks show after the final out.
