Moyers Strikes out Eight in 6-1 Loss to Legends

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Steven Moyers set a new career-high with eight strikeouts and Ryne Ogren stroked his first home run of the season, but the Power offense was otherwise held silent in a 6-1 loss to Lexington Monday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Moyers (0-1) got off on the right foot, setting down the first six batters he faced in order. However, Lexington broke through in a big way in the third, stringing together five hits, four singles and a double, to plate four runs. The Legends (2-2) tacked on another run to complete their big inning as Nathan Eaton came home on a wild pitch to make it 5-0 Lexington.
Overall, Moyers worked five innings and allowed six runs on nine hits in his Power debut.
West Virginia (2-3) broke the shutout in the fifth, as Ogren blasted his home run to left-center field off Jonathan Bowlan (1-0), closing the deficit to 5-1. Ogren's long ball was the fourth of his career, and the Power's second of the season.
The Legends would answer right back, however, adding a run in their half of the fifth on an RBI single from Reed Rohlman to push the lead to 6-1.
Benjamin Onyshko silenced Lexington over their final three offensive innings, ceding just three hits and fanning three batters.
Tyler Gray (S, 1) picked up the save in his Legends debut, firing three scoreless frames and also striking out three.
In the loss, Julio Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to five games with a 2-for-4 night, his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
West Virginia and Lexington continue their three-game series Tuesday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Logan Gilbert (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his second start for the Power, while Lexington counters with LHP Austin Cox (first start). Following their three-game road series in Kentucky, West Virginia returns home to Appalachian Power Park for their home opener against the Augusta GreenJackets April 11.
