Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power lost the final game of a three game series against the Rome Braves 4-2 at Appalachian Power Park. The Power suffered their first series sweep of the season.
West Virginia jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off Braves starter Touki Toussaint. Tito Polo led off with a single and stole second and third base, giving him a team leading eight steals this year. One batters later Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a sacrifice fly to score Polo and put the Power up 1-0.
That was the only run allowed by Toussaint (1-3), who gave up just two hits over five innings.
The score remained the same until the third inning when Rome scored four runs against Power starter J.T. Brubaker. After the first two batters of the inning reached, Ray-Patrick Didder hit an RBI single to center. The next batter, Ronald Acuna, hit a go-ahead three-run home run to right to give the Braves a 4-1 lead. Those were Rome's only runs of the game.
Brubaker (2-1) gave up four runs, two of which were earned, and struck out a season-high eight batters over five innings. Tate Scioneaux and Julio Eusebio combined to shutout the Braves across the final three innings.
The Power added one more run in the sixth inning, when Tyler Filliben lined a single to right center to plate Polo making it 4-2 Rome.
However the Power were unable to do any more damage, as the Braves bullpen held them scoreless the rest of the way. West Virginia brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning, but Rome reliever Oriel Caicedo induced an inning-ending double play to stymie the threat.
West Virginia will look to break a season-high four game losing streak on Friday night as they begin a four game series with the Asheville Tourist. The Power send Logan Sendelbach to the mound against Tourist starter David Hill. The game is also BrickStreet Insurance Night at the ballpark with postgame fireworks after the game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M at Appalachian Power Park.
