PREVIEW: The Shorebirds opened a seven game set at home this week by beating the Greenville Drive 3-1 and 5-3 in the first two games. Greenville is the Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Shorebirds go for the sweep as the hottest team in the South Atlantic League - they have won eight of their last 10 games and are a season-high four games over .500 entering today's affair. Further, the Shorebirds have won four of their first six series this season. This is the only series scheduled between Delmarva and Greenville this season.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Right-hander Marc Brakeman gets the ball for Darren Fenster in the series finale. Brakeman is a 6'1" 180 pound, 21-year old pitcher from Tierra Verde, Florida, but he pitched collegiately on the west coast at Stanford University. The former Cardinal was drafted by Boston last June in the 16th round of the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft. Brakeman was used as a started and as a reliever in college. This morning is his fourth professional appearance, all of which have been starts. He has no record and a 3.72 ERA in his two starts this year from the Drive.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
