Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV (August 26, 2008) - West Virginia Power outfielder Caleb Gindl and R.J. Seidel turned in fantastic performances during the week of August 17th, and both been rewarded with player of the week honors for their incredible contributions.
Seidel, a native of LaCrosse, Wisconsin tossed 13 scoreless innings of work over a pair of starts last week and allowed just eight hits during that stretch. Seidel fanned seven batters and walked just three last week while helping the Power make a push towards their second post-season birth in as many years. Seidel is 2-1, with a 2.35 ERA in the month of August and he has posted a 6-1 record since the All Star Break. He is the second Power player this season to be named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week.
Gindl became the fourth Power player to win the South Atlantic League's Offensive Player of the Week Award. Gindl homered in all four games against Asheville, while scoring five times and knocked in nine runs. Gindl hit .429 last week and brought his average above .300 for the first time since opening day.
The Power will finish the four game series against the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park on Tuesday night. The Power will start right hander Evan Anundsen (11-7, 4.20) and the Legends will counter with left hander Anthony Bello (7-6, 3.88). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
