Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Juan Valdez hit a three-run home run and drove in five runs in the game and Ryan Morris picked up his ninth win of the season pitching no-hit baseball through five innings as the Lake County Captains defeated the Hagerstown Suns 8-1 on Tuesday. The win was the Captains fifth in a row which ties a season high.
The Captains scored in the second inning against Suns starter Brad Meyers when with runners at second and third and one out, Valdes hit s sacrifice fly to score Matt Brown and it was 1-0 Captains. The lead Captains busted it open in the bottom of the third inning when the Captains scored six times highlighted by the Valdes home run and RBI's from Chris Nash, Matt Brown and Jeff Hehr and the Captains led 7-0.
The Hagerstown got on the board in the sixth inning when Garrett Bass got the first hit of the game for the Suns off of Gary Campfield and that scored Mark Glidea to make it 7-1. Valdes singled home Adam Davis in the in seventh inning and it was 8-1.
Morris improved his record to 9-5 pitching five scoreless, hitless innings walking two and striking out five. Campfield replaced Morris in the sixth inning and threw two innings allowing the one run on one hit, walking one and striking out two. Paolo Espino came on in the eighth inning and pitched two scoreless innings. Brad Meyers was hung with the loss and his record fell to 9-7.
The Captains host the Hagerstown Suns in the final regular season game at Classic Park in 2008 with game time at 7:05 PM. The Captains will host at least one playoff game beginning September 5th. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Miller (7-7, 3.39) to the mound to face the Suns RHP Terrence Engles (3-5, 6.09). All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.
Wednesday is WIN BIG WEDNESDAY at Classic Park! The Captains will give away $1,000 in cash and prizes! The first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive an envelope containing anything from a dime to a certificate for $500 cash. The prizes include one (1) $500 winner, one (1) $100 winner, ten (10) $10 gas card winners, and twenty (20) $5 Captains gift card winners. It's also Fan Appreciation Night, so the Captains will include an additional 48 vouchers in the envelopes that can be redeemed for Captains Fan Appreciation Prize Packs!
Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
