Hagerstown Suns News Release
EASTLAKE, OH -The Hagerstown Suns (24-40) lost their second game in a row on to the Lake County Captains (32-31) on Tuesday, falling by a score of 8-1.
After allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning, Suns starter Brad Meyers (9-7) unraveled in the bottom of the third. Nine hitters came to the plate in the third for Lake County, as the Captains scored six runs on six hits to take a 7-0 lead. Meyers took the loss after coming out at the end of the third inning; in all, Meyers allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out two hitters.
Captains starter Ryan Morris (9-6) was excellent, as he had a perfect game going through four innings. Morris did walk two Suns hitters, but did not allow a hit in his five innings of work and he struck out five to earn the win.
Hagerstown finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning against reliever Gary Campfield. Campfield surrendered walks to Mark Gildea and Jose Lozada before Garret Bass singled to left field, scoring Gildea for the Suns lone run.
Paolo Espino worked the final two innings for Lake County, and gave up three hits and one walk without allowing a run to score.
Justin Phillabaum pitched two innings in relief of Meyers and was very effective, allowing just one hit and one walk without allowing a run while striking out two batters. Lake County added one more tally in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Ryan Harrison. Harrison also worked two innings and allowed two hits while picking up four strikeouts.
Robby Jacobsen, who started the game at first base and went 1-4 at the plate, pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Hagerstown. The inning of work was Jacobsen's third appearance of the season as a pitcher.
The Captains have now won five consecutive games, and will be playing in the playoffs as the first-half champions of the SAL Northern Division.
The Suns and Captains will finish their three game series at Classic Park in Eastlake, OH on Wednesday, August 27th at 7:05 P.M. The Suns will then travel to Lakewood, NJ to take on the BlueClaws for two games before returning to Municipal Stadium for a game Saturday night.
