Power Surge Backs Castellani in 10-5 Win

Modesto, CA. - Ryan Castellani battled through seven innings while the Modesto Nuts' offense busted out in a 10-5 defeat of the San Jose Giants on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.

Castellani (W, 2-6) ran into trouble early after the Nuts (23-38) spotted him first-inning lead. Castellani allowed a solo homer in the second. In the second, C.J. Hinojosa tied the game with a RBI double. In the third, a balk, a wild pitch and a RBI single plated three runs and put the Giants (34-26) in front by their largest margin.

Castellani would not allow another run after the fourth. He worked seven innings allowing a season-high ten hits and five runs while striking out five and walking two.

Shane Hoelscher crushed a three-run homer in the fifth on a 3-0 pitch to bring the Nuts back and put them in front for good. Jose Morel (L, 1-3) continued in the sixth when the Nuts tacked on to put the game out of reach. After retiring the first two hitters quickly, Forrest Wall sparked the two-out rally with a double. Luis Jean followed with a walk before Wes Rogers smacked a laser off the centerfield wall to drive in two with a triple. Rogers scored when Max White followed with a RBI triple of his own.

White finished 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and walk. Wall went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Rogers went 2-for-5 and scored twice.
