Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - Power ended the pitchers' duel as the Modesto Nuts fell 2-1 in eleven against the San Jose Giants on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.
After a great start by Yency Almonte, it was Brandon Bednar that broke the tie in the eleventh for the Giants (35-27). With Troy Neiman (L, 2-2) on the mound for his second inning of relief for the Nuts (23-39), Bednar crushed a two-out, go-ahead solo home run.
Almonte was tremendous in his start for the Nuts. The righty worked a season-high-tying eight innings allowing just three hits and one run while walking none and striking out eight.
Sam Coonrod was just as good for the Giants. The righty worked eight innings striking out seven and allowing just one unearned run. Luis Jean stole third in the third. The throw from the catcher Ty Ross skipped into left allowing the Nuts' only run of the afternoon to score. Coonrod allowed five singles and walked none.
The Nuts start a doubleheader on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark against the Stockton Ports at 6:10 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:05 p.m. Listen live online.
