Streak Snapped at Ten in 9-4 Defeat

June 12, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

All things must come to an end; the Bakersfield Blaze ten game winning streak was snapped on Fireworks Saturday, simultaneously ending the visiting Stockton Ports ten game losing streak as the visitors mounted an early offensive attack and defeated the Blaze, 9-4.

Anthony Misiewicz (L, 3-5), normally quite reliable, simply could not fool the Stockton batters on this cool Saturday evening. The lefty was touched for three runs before the seats were warm, then allowed an unearned tally in the 3rd, and for good measure, the Ports blew it open with four runs in the 4th for an 8-0 lead.

The Blaze have shown little quit on their recent surge, and the club was not ready to go down without a fight tonight, either. There just wasn't enough in the tank.

The Blaze got on the board in the bottom of the 4th when two singles and an error plated a run, with Tyler Marlette picking up the RBI driving in Austin Wilson.

Wilson brought himself around and in with a booming homer in the 6th, a moonshot that cleared the sunshield beyond the centerfield fence, and the score sat at 8-2. Wilson had three hits in the losing effort, and his batting average has improved 28 points in the last week.

Meanwhile, Aaron Brooks worked three scoreless innings out of the bullpen - again - to keep the game from getting too far out of hand, but the Ports took advantage of the third Blaze error of the night to plate their ninth run, an unearned tally off Thyago Vieira in the 8th for a 9-2 edge.

Bakersfield used a pair of singles and two Ports errors for two runs in the home half of the inning, but that's how it would end at 9-4.

For Stockton, Kyle Friedrichs (W, 1-1) picked up with the win with 6.0 strong innings, and a trio of relievers finished the job in decent enough order.

The Blaze will look to get a new streak going on Sunday night at 7:45pm, as Tyler Herb, one of three Blaze All Stars, will toe the rubber. Fans dressing up as princesses get into the game for free on Cinertain's Cinema Sunrun Sunday.
