Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power were shutout 6-0 by the Hickory Crawdads on Friday at Appalachian Power Park. Three Crawdads pitchers held the Power offense to three hits as West Virginia was held without a run for the sixth time this season.
Hickory took a 1-0 in the top of the first inning on a pair of singles off Power starter Nick Kingham. The Crawdads added three runs in the top of the fifth inning on one hit, a hit batter, a walk, and two Power errors. The final two Hickory runs were plated on a solo home run by Jorge Alfaro in the sixth and two singles in the ninth.
Will Lamb pitched five shutout innings for Hickory, allowing base runners in four out of five of those innings. Taylor Dennis followed with three scoreless frames and Coby Cowgill pitched the ninth to complete the shutout.
Kingham (6-8) took the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, over five innings with six strikeouts. Lamb (5-8) gained the win to help the Crawdads take their second straight in the series with two games remaining.
The Power were held to four hits, all singles, including a first inning base hit by Eric Avila that extended his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.
West Virginia and Hickory continue this series on Saturday when Mike Jefferson and Andrew Faulkner square off for the Power and Crawdads, respectively. The first pitch at Appalachian Power Park is slated for 7:05 pm.
