Charleston RiverDogs News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - Rob Refsnyder lined a go-ahead, RBI double into left field in the sixth inning for the Charleston RiverDogs as they snuck by the Lexington Legends 3-2 in South Atlantic League action on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Charleston now has a record of 65-62 (26-34 in the second half) after picking up their second straight win. Lexington's losing skid hits nine games and they now stand at 67-62 (28-32 in the second half).
Refsnyder's second game-winning hit in as many nights came with one out in the inning off starter Jonas Dufek (6-4) and brought Cito Culver in all the way from first. It also made a winner out of relief pitcher Charlie Short (1-0), who picked up his first victory in a RiverDogs' uniform with one and a third innings of scoreless pitching. Charleston's bullpen then continued their outstanding work as John Brebbia fired two spotless innings and Pedro Guerra retired the side in order in the ninth for his sixth save.
Ali Castillo (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, run) got the RiverDogs on the board in the second when he cracked a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, over the left field fence.
That lead stood until the fifth, when the Legends finally got to starter Cesar Vargas, who was making his debut with Charleston, and knocked him out of the game. A pair of walks started the inning and Jodbuan Morales followed with an RBI single for one run. Nolan Fontana scored the second run on a groundout, tying the game up at 2-2. Short then came in and ended the rally and the RiverDogs re-took the lead the next inning.
These two teams continue their four-game series Saturday night with a game at 7:05 pm. Charleston's RHP Corey Black (1-2, 6.59 ERA) will take the hill against Lexington RHP Chris Devenski (1-2, 5.28 ERA).
