South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that Maxime Daigneault has been called up to the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League for their game tonight in Tampa Bay. He also announced that Aaron Power has arrived from Cleveland of the AHL and will be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Rays host Gwinnett in Game Three. The Stingrays trail in the series 2-0 with Games Three and Four (if necessary) to be played at the North Charleston Coliseum Wednesday and Thursday.
Daigneault was called up to the Caps earlier in the season and did not see any action. Should the second year professional see action with the Caps, he would be the sixth member South Carolina Stingrays to advance to hockey's highest level, following Joey Tenute, Martin Biron, Steve Shields, Sean Gauthier and David Cooper.
Daigneault finished the regular season with a record of 16-12-9 for the Stingrays. He was a second round draft pick of the Capitals. He is expected to return to the Stingrays in time for the Wednesday's game with Gwinnett.
Power will return to the Stingrays after spending the majority of the season with Cleveland of the American Hockey League. He played in 22 games with the Stingrays before his promotion and had a goal and 11 assists for 12 points. The third year professional had four goals and three assists in 50 games with the Barons on the blue line this season.
"Aaron is going to be a huge addition to this team in this playoff series," commented Fitzsimmons. "He was one of the top young defensemen in the league before being called up. He plays five on five, penalty kill and power play, which means he will see a lot of ice time tomorrow night."
If the Rays beat the Gladiators tomorrow at 7:05, Game Four will be Thursday, April 20th at 7:05 with a Game Five scheduled for Sunday in Gwinnett if needed. Tickets are on sale now at the Coliseum Box Office and at Ticketmaster at 554-6060.
