Power offense explodes in 9-2 victory

Lexington, KY (July 25, 2005) - The West Virginia Power offense lit up the Lexington Legends pitching staff for nine runs on eighteen hits and beat the Legends by the final score of 9-2 at Applebee's Park on Monday night.

Grant Richardson doubled in the top of the first inning and brought in Hernan Iribarren to provide the Power with a 1-0 lead. The Power scored three times in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Clay Blevins knocked in the first two runs on a double, and he scored later in the inning on Freddy Parejo's RBI single. The Legends scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead in half. Frankie Caraballo knocked in the first run on an RBI double and Ryan Reed scored later in the inning on Bryan Triplett's RBI groundout. It remained 4-2 until Josh Brady broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning when he hit a three run homer with two outs, his sixth of the year to give the Power a 7-2 lead. The Power added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI double from Alcides Escobar and an RBI single from Grant Richardson.

Steve Hammond (3-0) tossed six strong innings to earn the victory, Eric Thomas (1) earned the save and Chad Reineke (6-7) obtained the loss. The Power are 15-15 in the second half after the win and the Legends move to 15-15 with the loss.

The Power will continue the three game series against the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park on Wednesday night. The Power will throw right-handed pitcher Josh Wahpepah (5-5, 3.51) and the Legends will counter with right-handed pitcher Evan Englebrook (7-3, 3.51). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
