Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Hagerstown wasted no time and got after Delmarva right away in the home half of the first inning. Suns' Russ Triplett singled on a line drive to centerfield. Suns' Mike Carp walked, men on first and second when Jesus Flores drove in one on a double off the left field wall. Hagerstown had two men in scoring position with one out and Corey Coles delivered his 15th double of the year over the head of âBirds right fielder Quincy Ascencion, scoring two, giving the Suns a 3-0 boost in the first. Next up for the home team Derran Watts, Coles stole (11) 3rd base, and with an anxious throwing error by catcher Matt Houston, Coles scampered home for the 4th run of the inning. Delmarva put up a fight the rest of the way, played tough defense, Ramirez settled down, they put together a string of hits (7 total on the night) but wasn't enough has Hagerstown set the tone in the beginning and never looked back. The game went scoreless until the Suns added one more in the bottom of the 7th when Watts lead off with his 2nd double of the night. He then made his way to third on a sac-fly and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Ramirez. That stayed the final score 5-0, âBirds dropped 3 of 5 on this road trip but remain in first place by 2 games in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League.
Delmarva will host Hagerstown for a two-game stint starting Tuesday night @ 7:05pm.
