Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Suns were determined to send the crowd of nearly 2,000 home with a win on Monday night. Orlando Rengel chipped in a fabulous start and the Suns scored four runs in the first to win 5-0.

Rengel was making his first start as a Sun since April 16th and had his best outing of the year, lasting six innings and not allowing a batter past first base.

In the first inning Hagerstown scored 4 runs, all with two outs. After a single by Russ Triplett, Mike Carp walked and then Jesus Flores and Corey Coles had back-to-back doubles to score three runs. Coles stole third base and when the catcher's throw went into left field, he raced home to score.

Luis Ramirez, the starter for Delmarva, had one of the best ERA's in the league, but the Suns scored five runs off of the right-hander to give him his 5th loss of the year.

Before the game, the Shorebirds had the best record in the South Atlantic League and the Suns had the worst. The two teams had played 11 times with the Shorebirds winning the last 4.

The Suns and Shorebirds will play a two-game set in Delmarva before the Suns go to Kannapolis for four games.

Hagerstown will return to Municipal Stadium on August 2 for a four-game series against the Lake County Captains on an Old-Time Tuesday sponsored by Bankers Insurance (Mike Barnes and Karen Wilt). For tickets, stop by or call the Suns offices at 301-791-6266.
