The West Virginia Power lost 3-2 to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. Three Shorebird pitchers held the Power bats to two hits and two early runs while snapping the Power's two-game winning streak.

West Virginia scored twice in the bottom of the first inning without the benefit of a base hit. Shorebirds starter David Baker walked Any Vasquez and Mel Rojas Jr. After a passed ball allowed both runners to advance into scoring position, a Baker wild pitch brought Vasquez home from third. Rojas Jr. would later score on a sacrifice fly from Chase Lyles.

Delmarva halved the deficit in the top of the second inning against Power starting pitcher Jameson Taillon. With two outs, Taillon hit Jacob Julius and allowed back-to-back singles, including one to Garabez Rosa that brought home the Shorebirds first run.

Taillon and Baker would settle in and keep the opposing offenses off the board over the next few innings. Colton Cain took over for West Virginia in the fifth and tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Baker did not surrender a hit until the home half of the fifth inning as the score remained 2-1 in the Power's favor.

Delmarva tied the game in the seventh inning and took the lead in the eighth, plating both runs against Zac Fuesser. Ty Kelly drove in the tying run with two down in the seventh, while Rosa's second single of the game brought home the eventual winning run in the eighth.

Fuesser (3-6) took the loss for West Virginia. Baker (3-3) was the pitcher of record when the winning run scored and earned the win. David Walters pitched the ninth, allowing one base hit en route to his 29th save of the year.

The Power and Shorebirds play game two of this four-game set Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia will send left-hander Eliecer Navarro to the mound against Delmarva southpaw Jarret Martin at 7:05 pm.

SECOND HALF RECORD: 23-30

OVERALL POWER RECORD: 58-63
