STAT OF THE NIGHT: Shorebirds catcher Michael Ohlman has reached base in 21 consecutive games dating back to July 22. He is tied with Brandon Jacobs (Greenville) for the longest active streak in the SAL. Ohlman is hitting .247 with 18 hits and 15 walks during the streak.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds are coming off a series loss to Lakewood, three games to one at FirstEnergy Park. The 'Birds have lost six of their seven games and ten of their last 12. The Shorebirds are 12.5 games out of first place with 18 games remaining. The Shorebirds are 4-12 in the month of August. This is the second trip of the season to Appalachian Power Park. The Shorebirds won two of three games between June 5 and June 7.
SERIES OPENING SUCCESS: The Shorebirds have won five of the last six series openers. They beat Lakewood 2-1 in the series opener on Monday. The Shorebirds are 19-13 in series openers this season.
BIG SERIES FOR HORNBACK: Riley Hornback had five hits in the most recent series against Lakewood. His batting average has jumped to .229, the highest it has been since May 27 (.238). Hornback has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season.
SIX-MAN ROTATION: The Shorebirds will go to a six-man rotation with Parker Bridwell joining the mix on Saturday. Bridwell will make his first SAL start since June 11. He made two starts for the Shorebirds before moving down to Aberdeen when the NYPL season began. The 20-year old made 11 starts for Aberdeen and posted a 2-5 mark with a 4.53 ERA.
OFFENSIVE TROUBLES: In the most recent series against Lakewood, the Shorebirds hit .184 (19-103) and scored just ten total runs (2.5 per game). The Shorebirds are batting .200 in the month of August and averaging just 2.68 runs per during the month.
FOURTH IN SYSTEM: Ty Kelly ranks fourth in the Orioles farm system with a .292 batting average. Tyler Townsend leads the system with a .319 average (Frederick).
