POWER REPLAY: West Virginia fell 3-1 in the season series finale with Savannah. The Power plated a run in the first on a ground out, but could not muster any additional run support. The Gnats plated two in the fifth inning against Tyler Waldron and added a late inside-the-park home run against Rinku Singh. Savannah took the last two games of the series, and the season set was split with three wins and three losses.
WALK-OFF WOES: Thursday's loss was the seventh this season in walk-off fashion for the Power. West Virginia is 3-7 during games decided in the last at bat, including their most recent walk-off win on Monday night against the RiverDogs and last night's two out, bottom-of-the-ninth defeat.
BONUS BASEBALL: The Power are now 5-5 when playing extra innings this season after Wednesday's 12 inning win at Savannah. The club did not go to extra frames until May 23 against Lakewood, the 43rd game of the season, but has since done it nine other times over the last 53 games.
NO FREE PASSES: West Virginia's pitching staff continues to lead all of baseball with the fewest number of batters walked this year. Power pitchers have combined to walk 212 batters through 96 games. The next closest team is Wilmington in the Carolina League with 234. The lowest Major League club tally is 250 by Philadelphia.
SOUTHERN SWING: West Virginia makes its final trip to Charleston, South Carolina for a four game series that starts tonight. The Power split on their last trip to Joseph P. Riley Park, winning on May 9 and 10, but falling in the next two games. These clubs met last weekend at Appalachian Power Park with the Power taking two of three including a walk-off win the past Monday night on a Drew Maggi single. West Virginia is 16-10 all-time against the RiverDogs, including an 8-8 mark on the road in the set.
POWER POUNDER: The Pirates transferred Zac Fuesser to State College and added Brooks Pounders back to the Power roster on Wednesday. Fuesser pitched seven innings Monday and is expected back on the roster to make his next turn through the rotation on Sunday at Charleston. Pounders has only pitched for West Virginia this season, and was transferred to State College on Sunday to clear a roster spot for Colton Cain, who came of the disabled list to start on July 17.
VERGE OF HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 24 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Stephen Chapman for the most home runs in any player's Power career. Chapman hit a single-season record 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007.
TRIPLE THREAT: Andy Vasquez has nine triples this season, still tops in the SAL by three three-base hits. Quincy Latimore holds the club's single season record with 10 during the 2009 season, the team's first year as an affiliate of the Pirates.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia is the only club in the SAL that has not hit a grand slam this season... Zac Fuesser is slated to be added back to the Power roster before tomorrow afternoon's game against Charleston and is expected to make the start... Colton Cain has faced Charleston twice this season and is 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA against the RiverDogs, including a no-decision last weekend.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh dropped a 6-4 final to St. Louis at PNC Park... Indianapolis beat Rochester 5-4 in 10 innings... Altoona fell 6-1 to New Britain... Bradenton walked-off with a 6-5 win over Tampa... State College lost 10-3 to Mahoning Valley.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the PowerRadio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
