POWER REPLAY: West Virginia walked off with a 3-2 win on Monday in the series finale with Charleston. The Power plated a run on a Rogelio Noris base hit in the second, added a run in the fourth on a Chase Lyles single, and lead 2-1 after six. The RiverDogs tagged Eliecer Navarro with a blown save when they scored in the eighth, but Drew Maggi singled in Noris in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to claim the win. West Virginia took two of three from Charleston, and will start a four game set against the RiverDogs on Saturday.
FEW SCOREAGAINST FUESSER: Zac Fuesser pitched a season-high seven innings on Monday night, allowing one run and striking out seven in a no-decision. The southpaw has a 2.31 ERA, which would be the lowest in the league if he had enough innings to qualify. As a starting pitcher this season, Fuesser is 0-2 with a 2.84 earned run average, and is 2-1 with one save as a reliever with a 1.75 ERA.
SOUTHERN SWING: West Virginia starts a seven game road trip tonight in Savannah and will continue the journey in Charleston, South Carolina starting Saturday. The Power hold a 17-10 all-time series lead against the Sand Gnats, including a 7-5 record at Grayson Stadium. West Virginia is 16-10 all-time against the RiverDogs, including an 8-8 mark at Joseph P. Riley Park.
POWER POUNDER: The Pirates transferred Zac Fuesser to State College and added Brooks Pounders back to the Power roster for tonight's game. Fuesser pitched seven innings Monday and is expected back on the roster to make his next turn through the rotation on Sundayat Charleston. Pounders has only pitched for West Virginia this season, and was transferred to State College on Sunday to clear a roster spot for Colton Cain, who came of the disabled list to start on July 17.
SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL: West Virginia's 13-run attack Saturday night was their second highest offensive output this season, and the first time in over a month that the club reached double digits in run scored. The Power scored 14 against Hagerstown in late April for the highest run output this season, and last hit double digits on June 12 at Greensboro.
STOPPED AT SEVEN: West Virginia snapped its season-high seven game losing streak with Friday night's win. During this stretch, the team was outscored 50-18 and lost by at least two runs in each game.
VERGE OF HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 24 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has now matched Stephen Chapman for the most home runs in any player's Power career. Chapman hit a single-season record 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007.
TRIPLE THREAT: Andy Vasquez's triple Friday gives him nine for the season, tops in the SAL so far. Vasquez's total has surpassed Alcides Escobar, Hernan Iribarren, and Lee Haydel for the second-most three base hits in a season in Power history. Quincy Latimore holds the single season record with 10 during the 2009 campaign.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia is the only club in the SAL that has not hit a grand slam this season... Rinku Singh has now pitched at four levels in the Pirates organization this season... The Power are now 4-5 in extra inning games this season.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 3-1 to Cincinnati earlier today... Indianapolis edged Charlotte 3-2... Altoona dopped a 6-0 final at Akron... Bradenton beat Daytona 8-5... State College lost 6-1 at Mahoning Valley.
