POWER REPLAY: West Virginia dropped the series finale at Hagerstown on Sunday by an 8-2 final. The Power held a 2-1 lead after two innings on a two-run triple by Andy Vasquez, but the Suns countered with seven late runs against Tyler Waldron and Brooks Pounders. West Virginia was limited to just two hits from the fifth inning on by three different Hagerstown pitchers.
SWEPT ASIDE: The Power were swept during the four-game weekend series at Hagerstown. This set marks the fourth time this season that West Virginia has been brushed aside. The Power were swept in a five game series at Kannapolis in April, four games in mid-May against Lakewood, and over three games during the most recent homestand versus Greensboro.
TRIPLE THREAT: Andy Vasquez's triple on Sunday gives him eight for the season, tops in the SAL so far. Vasquez's total has matched Alcides Escobar, Hernan Iribarren, and Lee Haydel for the second-most three base hits in a season. Quincy Latimore holds the single season record with 10 during the 2009 campaign.
TWO MUCH FUN: The Power are now 5-7 on doubleheader days this season after Saturday's twinbill. West Virginia swept two from Savannah on April 10, took both games against Greensboro on May 2, and split a doubleheader at Lexington on May 18. The club has also been swept three times, having lost both games of a doubleheader on April 23 at Kannapolis in walk-off fashion, leading 7-6 going in the last half inning and falling 8-7 in both games, losing twice at Greensboro on May 14, and twice on Saturday at Hagerstown.
STREAKING: Two Power players were riding eight-game hitting streaks into Thursday night's game at Hagerstown, but only one was extended. Justin Howard went 1-2 and is batting .323 during his nine-game hitting streak, matching Matt Curry and Drew Maggi for the longest hitting streak by any Power player this season. Maggi had his eight-game hitting streak stopped Thursday with an 0-4 performance.
HICKORY HISTORY: The Power and Crawdads meet a total of 11 times this season after playing seven times all of last year. The Crawdads won the 2010 season set 4-3, and West Virginia has a 4-3 edge this season. The Power lead the all-time series 44-29, and hold a 26-10 advantage at Appalachian Power Park.
ECLIPSED: After the getting swept by the Suns over the weekend, the all-time series between West Virginia and Hagerstown is now in the Suns' favor. Hagertsown won the season series 7-2, and now leads the all-time set 50-47.
HOME RUN HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 22 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Kenny Holmberg's two-year total for second most in club history. Stephen Chapman hit 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007, the most in any season for West Virginia, and also the most in any player's Power career.
POWER POINTS: The Charleston River Dogs will come to town later this week, their first appearance at Appalachian Power Park since 2009...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh is idle during the All-Star break and will open a series in Houston on Thursday night... Indianapolis is off for the Triple-A All-Star break... Altoona dropped a 5-3 final to Bowie in 11 innings... Bradenton lost 9-2 to Lakeland... State College walked-off with a 7-6 win over Batavia.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
