Power Drops One to Hickory

West Virginia fell to the Hickory Crawdads 11-5 Tuesday night in game one of a home stand at Appalachian Power Park. The Crawdads took an early lead and get doing damage on their way to the victory.

Trent Stevenson (0-3) had a rough start against Hickory, not able to work through the first inning. The Crawdads hit Stevenson hard for five runs in the top of the first inning. The five runs were highlighted by two home runs by Jurickson Profar to lead off the game, and a two run long ball by Tomas Telis to give Hickory the early 5-0 lead.

The Power added a run in the bottom of the first inning to lessen the Crawdad lead. Dan Grovatt walked and later scored on a double by Cole White to move the tally to 5-1.

After Hickory added two runs in the top of the second inning, West Virginia picked up a run in the bottom of the second. Chase Lyles drew a walk and scored on a wild pitch bringing the score to 7-2

The Power collected a third run in the bottom of the third frame with a solo home run off the bat of Cole White.

Elias Diaz would reach base in the fifth inning after being hit by a pitch. Rogelio Noris would cut the Crawdad lead to 7-5 driving a two run shot to straight away centerfield over the farthest wall at Appalachian Power Park.

Hickory would blow up for four additional runs in the sixth inning to pad their lead to the final count of 11-5. The Crawdads put together a double and two infield singles before Andrew Clark sent a long ball well over the wall in right field.

Ben Henry (3-0) picked the win for Hickory working two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out one Power batter during his frames.

West Virginia and Hickory match up for game 2 of the series at Appalachian Power Park on Wednesday evening with a scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Lefty Zac Fuesser gets the call for the Power and he will face Cody Buckel starting for the Crawdads.
