Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Lakewood fell behind 4-0 early, but they blasted their way to a win by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday night. The Greenville Drive found themselves leading 4-0 after 3 innings, but that is when the BlueClaws bats came alive. Jim Murphy hit his team leading 18th and 19th Home Runs of the season, and Anthony Hewitt and Edgar Duran also went deep for Lakewood in the game.
The BlueClaws were out hit 12-8 in the game, but Lakewood made their count scoring 8 runs on 8 hits. Lisalberto Bonilla got his first win as a BlueClaw, and ironically it came on a day when he allowed more runs than he had in his last 3 starts combined. He pitched well lasting 5 innings, allowing 4 runs/3 earned on 5 hits. Bonilla had been so dominant for Lakewood, but had been the unfortunate victim of a lack of run support in his starts. His teammates picked him up with the 4 HR's, as well as some highlight reel defensive plays behind him.
Ryan Duke also got a first for Lakewood as he pitched the 9th inning to collect his first save as a BlueClaw. Murphy and Hewitt went back-to-back in the 4th inning to but Greenville's lead to 4-3, then Lakewood scored 3 more runs in the 5th to pull ahead 6-4. Greenville got the tying run into scoring position in the 9th, but Duke was able to get out of it and close out the game to earn his 1st save of the year.
Wednesday the same 2 teams will be back at it for game 2 of their 4 series at 7:00 pm. BlueClaws LHP Ervis Manzanillo (7-4, 4.44 ERA) will be going for his 8th win of the year. He will be opposed by Drive RHP Brandon Workman (2-4, 3.82 ERA) on Wednesday.
