Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (8-11, 43-46) held off a late Asheville Tourists (9-10, 40-48) rally to take game one 4-3 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. For the first time this season, Tim Berry nailed down wins in consecutive starts.

Berry and Asheville starter Josh Mueller tossed three scoreless and hitless innings before the two teams traded solo home runs. In the fourth, Ty Kelly launched his fourth homer of the season to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Then, in the top of the fifth, Dustin Garneau hit his ninth homer of the year to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Shorebirds regained the lead. Jeremy Nowak lashed a triple to the wall in right-center field to open the inning. Then, Adam Gaylord hit a grounder through the left side of the infield to give the Shorebirds a 2-1 lead. Joe Oliveira followed with a bunt single to put runners at first and second. With nobody out, Garabez Rosa dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners 90-feet. Mikey Planeta blistered a single into center field to give the Shorebirds a 4-1 edge.

Tim Berry (3-5) retired the first ten batters he faced en route to his second consecutive win. He allowed just two hits over five innings.

Randy Henry tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. Josh Dowdy loaded the bases with one out, but stranded all three runners in the eighth.

In the ninth, David Walters ran into trouble but narrowly escaped and locked away his 21st save of the season. Avery Barnes reached on a one-out error by Michael Rooney. Then, Mark Tracy singled to right-center to push Barnes to third. Joey Wong then reached on a catcher's interference call against Joe Oliveira to load the bases. Brett Tanos then hit a two-run single to left field to bring the Tourists within one run. Walters proceeded to strikeout Rafael Ortega and line out Helder Velazquez to end the game.

The Shorebirds and Tourists play game two of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Scott Copeland is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
