LAST NIGHT: West Virginia dropped a 3-1 contest to Rome. The Braves scored all three runs in the second inning on a home run by Edward Salcedo off of Eliecer Navarro. The Power's lone run scored on two hits and an error in the fifth inning. Navarro took the loss despite the first quality start of the season and third of his career. All six Power hits were singles, and no player had more than one hit in the game for West Virginia.
DAY& NIGHT: West Virginia is 11-16 in daytime contests this season with three remaining morning or afternoon starts left, including today's 11:05 am game. The Power, conversely are 49-57 at night. Power starter Brett Lorin has not appeared in a day game this season, while his Rome counterpart, Chris Masters, will pitch in his eighth daylight game of the season. Masters is 1-1 during the day with a 1.70 ERA in seven starts.
END OF THE ROAD: West Virginia's recently completed road trip was their final excursion for the 2010 season. The Power went 31-39 away from Charleston this season, hit .244 as a club, and held a staff ERA of 4.63. David Rubinstein led the club with a .317 road average, while Aaron Baker hit 12 of his 18 total home runs on the road. Phillip Irwin excelled on the road, going 3-0 with a 2.05 earned run average, while Kyle McPherson had a staff-best 57 strikeouts away from Appalachian Power Park. The 2009 version of the club went 34-36 away from home with a .260 average and a 4.45 ERA.
WHELCOME BHACK: Jhonathan Ramos rejoined the Power to fill the roster vacancy created by Kyle McPherson's promotion to Bradenton. Ramos appeared in seven games for West Virginia from May 28 through June 20, going 0-1 with an ERA of 8.40. On June 23, the southpaw was transferred to the State College roster and pitched in 16 games for the Spikes, going 3-1 with two saves and a 1.62 earned run average. Ramos was signed as an international free agent from Venezuela on August 24, 2006.
WE ARE FAM-A-LEE: Pittsburgh farm teams have the eighth best winning percentage in Minor League Baseball at .530. St. Louis's minor league clubs have a combined winning percentage of .549 to lead baseball, while Minnesota has the lowest at .432. Only the Mariners, Rays, Cardinals, and Mets affiliates have combined for more victories than those in the Pirates organization.
WALK OF LIFE: Evan Chambers leads the South Atlantic League with 87 walks and still ranks in the top ten across all of Minor League Baseball, despite not having played between August 17 and August 31. Conner Crumbliss of Kane County leads all minor leaguers with 118 walks. Chambers has an 11 walk lead over Jared Clark within the SAL.
POWER POINTS: Jose Hernandez leads the club with nine games played this season where he has reached on three or more hits... Andy Vasquez has reached safely in each game he has played for the Power this season, reaching by base hit in six of the seven contests... West Virginia beat Chris Masters on August 21 at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, tallying four runs on five hits over five innings...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Chicago 14-7. Garrett Jones hit his 20th home run of the season in the win to back Jeff Karstens... Indianapolis lost 5-2 to Columbus... Altoona upended Bowie 9-1... Bradenton lost game one of a doubleheader with St. Lucie, falling 4-3 in nine innings. The second game of the twinbill was suspended with a 3-3 score... State College lost 12-11 at Batavia.
