Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings against the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday night, defeating the Jackets by a 14-2 margin - equaling Augusta's largest margin of defeat this season.

Brian Irving was touched up early and often while being the victim of poor defensive play behind him. The GreenJackets committed four errors - all in the first three innings - as Irving (7-6) departed after just two shaky frames in one of his shortest starts of the year. After three innings, Lakewood led the game 12-0 with seven of those 12 runs unearned thanks to the four Augusta errors and Tommy Joseph's three passed balls.

Jonathan Singleton's two-run double in the fourth pushed the lead to 14 for the BlueClaws as Singleton led the way for Lakewood with his four-RBI evening.

Augusta got on the scoreboard in the sixth with a Luke Anders RBI single and added another run with Chris Dominguez's RBI double in the eighth - his 95th RBI of the season.

In his final start before the postseason, Trevor May was dominant for the BlueClaws. May (7-3) fired six innings and allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out six.

With the win, the BlueClaws - already the first half champions in the Northern Division - clinched the second half title as well. Lakewood becomes the first team in the South Atlantic League since 2004 to win the title in both halves.

Chris Heston (5-12, 3.77) takes the mound in the series finale on Thursday as the GreenJackets try for the split against the BlueClaws. First pitch from Lakewood will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com .
