Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville took a serious hit in their run at playing in the post season, losing 10-3 Wednesday night against Hickory. The Crawdads jumped ahead early and never looked back. With only five games remaining in the regular season, Asheville needs to put this defeat behind them and focus on Thursday night's series finale.
Hickory scored four runs in the third inning off Tourists starter Nick Schnaitmann (8-10, 5.32), all of which came with two outs. The Crawdads then added three more in the fourth to go ahead 7-0.
Guillermo Pimentel, who was just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, belted a solo home run in the fifth, making the score 8-0 Crawdads. Finally the Tourists cracked the scoreboard in the sixth. Nolan Arenado clubbed his 12th home run of the year; a two run shot to left.
Hickory would add two more in the eighth and the Tourists tacked on a run in the bottom of the ninth when Joey Wong hit an RBI double to center. Wong made several excellent defensive plays throughout the ball game; displaying unbelievable range.
Hickory's starting pitcher Jake Brigham (5-5, 3.51) picked up the victory tossing six solid innings.
After the game, the Crawdads celebrated outside of their clubhouse with a champagne shower in honor of clinching their post-season berth.
