
Power Earns Doubleheader Split

(Charleston, W.V. - July 15, 2015) - The West Virginia Power split the doubleheader with the Hagerstown Suns on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power fell in game one 3-2 and used a five-run third inning to defeat the Suns in game two 5-0.
In game one, the Power were trailing 3-0 before they even collected their first hit of the night in the third. In the fourth, West Virginia scored twice. Chase Simpson drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and reached third on a fielder's choice and an error on a ball put in play by Taylor Gushue. Simpson scored on a Pablo Reyes single to left which advanced Gushue to third. Gushue then scored on an RBI sac fly by Cole Tucker.
Alex McRae (4-6) suffered the loss after he gave up all three runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings of work. Suns reliever David Napoli picked up the win with 2.2 perfect innings.
Game two saw the Power offense explode with a five-run third. Tyler Filliben singled and Jeff Roy reached via hit by pitch to set the stage for Elvis Escobar. The all-star barreled a home run to right field to give the Power a 3-0 lead. Just a few pitches later, Jordan Luplow hit a solo shot to center field. Two batters later, Michael Suchy hit a double and scored on a Chase Simpson RBI single.
Yeudy Garcia (7-2) earned the victory with five shutout innings of work. The right hander faced two over the minimum and surrendered just two hits and one walk. Mario Sanchez (4-4) took the loss.
West Virginia (14-6, 51-38) concludes the series with Hagerstown (10-10, 45-43) on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. RHP Colten Brewer (2-6, 5.23) toes the rubber for West Virgina in the finale against LHP Connor Bach (2-1, 3.70). Pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, online on the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. while first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
Thursday's game is a Thirsty Thursday presented by 96.1 The Wolf with $1 12 oz. drafts and $2 16 oz. cans during the game against the Suns.
Also coming up during this homestand is the New River Gorge Bridge Replica giveaway to the first 1,000 fans thanks to Appalachian Power on Saturday night.
