Cameron Kneeland drove in four runs for the second straight game, and the Delmarva Shorebirds pounded out 15 hits and drew six walks in an 11-3 win over the Lexington Legends Wednesday night in Salisbury, Maryland.
The Legends scored a run in the top of the first inning when DonAndre Clark singled, stole second and third, and came home on a throwing by catcher Yermin Mercedes. But the Shorebirds came back with two in the bottom of the first. They loaded the bases on two walks and a single. One run scored on a ground out by Kneeland, and a second came home on Mercedes' sacrifice fly.
Lexington's Chad Johnson tied the game in the fourth with his third home run of the season, but Delmarva went in front for good with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, one scoring on a sacrifice fly by Steve Wilkerson and the other on a single by Kneeland. In the fifth, a walk to Derek Peterson and a triple by T.J. Olesczuk made the score 5-2, and the Shorebirds broke the game open with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Wilkerson led off the sixth with a bunt single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back doubles by Logan Uxa and Kneeland produced two runs, and Kneeland came home on a base hit by Elier Leyva, giving Delmarva an 8-2 lead.
The Legends scored a run in the top of the seventh on a double by Chase Vallot and a single by Alexis Rivera, but in the bottom of the seventh, Kneeland drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, and Mercedes hit a two-run homer to give the Shorebirds their final margin.
Daniel Delgado (4-2), who relieved starter Lucas Long at the start of the fourth inning, was the winning pitcher. Emilio Ogando (5-5), who also entered at the start of the fourth after Foster Griffin worked the first three innings, took the loss.
Delmarva has won the first two games in the series, which concludes Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
