Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Fluor Field was handed a beautiful day for baseball on Wednesday morning, and the only thing missing was a Greenville Drive victory, as the Augusta GreenJackets used a three-run fifth inning to defeat the Drive 6-2 and even the series at one game apiece.
After Dylan Davis began the fifth with a double off Drive (10-10, 48-42) starter Dedgar Jimenez (5-6) and was singled to third by Jeremy Sy, Will Callaway grounded a single through the right side to put Augusta ahead 2-1. Later in the inning, GreenJackets catcher Aramis Garcia continued his hot hitting in Greenville with a two-run single to right.
The big inning gave Augusta starter Pat Young (6-1) the victory, and he shined in holding the Drive to four hits, one run and one walk in seven innings with seven strikeouts.
The Drive's lone run off Young came in the bottom of the first, when Yoan Moncada singled to begin the frame, moved to second on a walk and came home on an RBI single by J.T. Watkins.
Travious Relaford tied the game for the GreenJackets in the third with a sacrifice fly that scored Sy, who singled.
Moncada continued his hot hitting in the bottom of the eighth. He smacked a Carlos Diaz offering to deep center field and scampered all the way home for an inside-the-park home run when the ball kicked away from the wall. The homer was Moncada's fourth of the season, and he's now notched a home run in three consecutive games. He led the Drive with two hits and two runs on the afternoon.
Callaway and Sy collected three hits apiece, while Relaford and Jonah Arenado added two hits for Augusta.
Jake Drehoff struck out five over four innings of relief for the Drive.
The rubber game of the series begins at 7:05 on Thursday night at Fluor Field. RH Jeffry Fernandez (2-7, 6.16) starts on the mound for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will send RH Chris Johnson (1-1, 4.50) to the hill.
