KANNAPOLIS, NC - All nine BlueClaws starters had hits and six had multi-hit games as the BlueClaws topped Kannapolis 8-4 on Wednesday night at Intimidators Stadium. Kyle Martin led the BlueClaws offensive attack with his third three-hit game in his last five games played.

Martin drove in two as did Deivi Grullon as the BlueClaws (11-9/44-44) won their eighth game in their last 12. Kannapolis (10-10/45-44) and Lakewood have split the first two games of their three-game series.

In the win, the BlueClaws pounded out 16 hits, a new season high (they had two previous 15-hit games).

Lakewood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kyle Martin drove in Herlis Rodriguez, who walked on four pitches to open the game. The BlueClaws added a run in the third Martin's SAC fly, again driving in Rodriguez. Deivi Grullon launched his fourth home run of the season in the fourth to put Lakewood up 4-0. It was Grullon's second home run of the week after he hit just two home runs in the first three months of the year.

After Kannapolis scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, Lakewood scored twice in the sixth on a wild pitch to score Cord Sandberg and an RBI single by Jose Mayorga. Jiandido Tromp's RBI groundout in the seventh put the BlueClaws ahead 7-3.

Lakewood starter Ranfi Casimiro gave up four runs in 6.2 innings, falling one out shy of finishing the seventh inning for the fourth time this year. Calvin Rayburn retired all four hitters he faced and Matt Hockenberry threw a scoreless ninth inning.

In addition to Martin's three hits, five BlueClaws had two hits: Herlis Rodriguez, Drew Stankiewicz, Scott Kingery, Cord Sandberg, and Jose Mayorga.

The teams play the rubber game of their series on Thursday night at 7:05. LHP Austin Davis (1-2) starts for Lakewood against RHP Luis Martinez (3-8).
