(Charleston, WV- May 8, 2014) - The West Virginia Power fell to the Savannah Sand Gnats on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park by a final score of 5-3. The Power clawed back to tie it after trailing early, but Savannah was too much late.

The San Gnats jumped out to the early advantage with three runs in the first inning behind a two-RBI single from Dominic Smith and a wild pitch from Dovydas Neverauskas that plated a run.

West Virginia clawed back in the third to tie it. Reese McGuire came through with an RBI single and Wyatt Mathisen reached on an error that plated McGuire and Erich Weiss.

Savannah answered in the fifth, however, on an L.J. Mazzilli RBI single to give the Sand Gnats the lead. The Gnats laid the knockout blow when Victor Cruzado blasted a solo homer in the ninth.

Power reliever Felipe Gonzalez (1-3) was charged with the loss while Dawrin Frias (2-0) earned the win and Robert Coles (6) tallied the save.

West Virginia hosts the Savannah Sand Gnats on Friday, May 9, at Appalachian Power Park. Shane Carle will toe the rubber for the Power against the Sand Gnats Miller Diaz. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com .
