PREVIEW: The Shorebirds opened their seven-game homestand with a 5-0 shutout victory. Steven Brault and Dylan Rheault combined for the third shutout of the season for the Shorebirds' pitching staff. The win snapped a three-game losing streak from the Charleston series. Delmarva will try to get a series win on Thursday night.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Keury Mella starts the middle game of the series for Augusta. Mella is 2-1 on the season with a 3.04 ERA on the season. The right-hander won his first two starts of the year, but has not recorded a win since April 11th. Mella has struck out 26 batters in 26 2/3 in- nings compared to only six walks issued. Mella pitched for the AZL Giants in 2013, and he was in the DSL the year before that.
19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.
ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles eked out another close win over the Tampa Bay Rays, winning 4-3 on Wednesday night. Adam Jones hit a pair of solo home runs, and Jonathan Schoop hit a tie-breaking two-run shot in the 7th inning. Closer Tommy Hunter made it interesting in the ninth, but ultimately the O's hung on. At 17-14, Baltimore is in 1st place in the AL East.
THE IRON IS HOT: 20 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

On Wednesday, Bierfeldt belted a bases-clearing double to break open a 5-0 lead over Augusta. With that three-run dou- ble, Bierfeldt has taken over the team lead in RBIs with 14 runs driven in. Bierfeldt also leads the team in walks drawn (15) and he is tied with Mike Yastrzemski for most home runs (2).
WHO'S HOT - JIMMY YACABONIS
Through his first ten appearances, the Del- marva closer has yet to allow a run. Yacabo- nis is a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities with a 1-0 record. In 11.0 innings, Yacabonis has struck out 16 batters.
WHO ELSE - DYLAN RHEAULT
On Wednesday, Rheault earned his second save of the year by recording the final nine outs in a 5-0 shutout. The reliever has not allowed a run in his last six appearances, spanning 12 1/3 scoreless innings.
