Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, Feb. 22, 2007 - The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced today that Portland LumberJax Ryan Powell and Pat Jones will play for the Western Division on Saturday, March 10 in the 2007 NLL All-Star Game in Portland, Ore. This will mark the first time that Powell and Jones will compete in an NLL All-Star Game.

Although he has competed in numerous Major League Lacrosse (outdoor) All-Star Games, Powell will get his first opportunity to showcase his skills in the indoor box-style NLL All-Star Game. The forward is currently leading the LumberJax in all scoring categories with 33 points off 15 goals and 18 assists. Among the league's leaders this year, Powell is tied for 13th in goals-scored and tied for 17th in overall points. Through six seasons in the NLL, Powell has netted 72 goals and 107 assists for 179 points.

Jax defender Jones is the team's primary face-off specialist and has served as the team captain through the past two seasons. He currently ranks second on the team in looseballs with 44 and has contributed two assists this year. This marks his sixth season in the NLL, and his career totals include one goal and 12 assists for 13 points and 1175 total face-offs.

Yesterday the NLL announced that Jax defenseman Brodie Merrill will start as a transition player for the Western Division in the All-Star Game. The Western and Eastern Division lineups were determined by a combination of votes from league general managers, media and fans who voted online at the NLL's official website.

The Western Division All-Stars will be coached by Colorado Mammoth head coach Gary Gait and assisted by Arizona Sting head coach Bob Hamley. The Eastern Division All-Stars will be coached by Buffalo Bandits head coach Darris Kilgour and assisted by Rochester Knighthawks head coach Ed Comeau. The All-Star Game's coaches were determined by how far teams progressed into the 2006 NLL Playoffs.
