San Jose Stealth News Release
(San Jose, CA, February 22, 2007) --- Newly acquired Forward Andrew Burkholder will premiere his skills as the latest addition to the San Jose Stealth when the team faces off against four former Stealth players in New York this weekend. The Stealth will take on the expansion New York Titans on Saturday, Feb 24 at 4:30 p.m. PST at Nassau Coliseum. Stealth fans can catch the game Saturday night at 7 p.m. PST on Comcast Sports Net West (channel 400), DIRECTV (channel 656) and the DISH Network (channel 409).
This will be the first meeting between the Stealth (1-5) and the Titans (1-7). The Stealth are looking to earn their second road win of the season in New York after their last road win against the Calgary Roughnecks in overtime on Jan. 12. The Stealth have had a three week break since they fell to Calgary 15-11 on Feb. 3 and look to end the month of February with a much needed win.
"It's going to be a huge game for both franchises," said Stealth General Manager Johnny Mouradian. "We're ready for the challenge."
Burkholder comes to the Stealth from the Colorado Mammoth where he won the 2006 Champions Cup and posted six goals and seven assists in just six regular season games. The leftie from St. Catharine's, ON also scored six goals and one assist during the 2006 post season. Over the course of his two year NLL career, Burkholder has played in 18 games and totaled 44 points from 23 goals and 21 assists.
Many Titans players will be very familiar to the Stealth. Titans forward and former fan favorite, Ryan Boyle and Defenseman Matt Alrich both played for San Jose during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Boyle earned his 2005 NLL Rookie of the Year Award wearing a Stealth jersey. Jarett Park and Goalie Matt Vinc also began their NLL careers playing for San Jose in 2006. Boyle, Alrich and Vinc were sent to New York in exchange for the first overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft, a conditional pick in the 2007 Entry Draft and Goaltender Aaron Bold. The Stealth used the number one pick on Ryan Benesch, whom they later traded to Toronto for 2005 NLL MVP and current Stealth leading point scorer Colin Doyle.
