PORTLAND, May 13, 2009 - The All-World defenseman is now a two-time All-Pro. The National Lacrosse League announced today that Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill has been named a first-team All-Pro. Merrill scored 14 goals and set career-high's in assists (33) and loose balls collected (216) as the Jax finished second in the West Division in 2009.

"Being named first-team All-Pro means that in voter's minds Brodie is in the top six in the league," said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "I would put him in the upper half of that top six. He had a fabulous year and is still growing as a player."

This is the second season award for the Orangeville, Ontario native this week. On Monday, Merrill was named the Transition Player of the Year after adding four multi-goal scoring games and tallying 3+ points in eight of the 16 regular season games this year.

"Obviously, this award is well deserved," added Keenan.

The four-time All-Star previously earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2006. During his rookie campaign, Merrill scored 17 goals, added 32 assists and collected 214 loose balls en route to also being named Rookie of the Year.
