
Four Bandits Named to NLL All-Pro Teams

BUFFALO, NY (May 13, 2009) --- Four Buffalo Bandits were named to the 2009 NLL All-Pro teams. Billy Dee Smith and Ken Montour were each named First Team All-Pro while Mark Steenhuis and John Tavares were named Second Team All-Pro.
Smith, the Defensive Player of the Year and Montour, the Goaltender of the Year each received league honors earlier this week.
Smith finished the season with a career-high 12 points (5+7), along with 47 loose balls and 33 penalty minutes. Montour led the NLL with a 9.57 GAA and .819 save percentage, in addition to a career-high eight wins. Montour, who made his first All-Star game appearance, was the only goaltender with a GAA under 10 this season.
Mark Steenhuis and John Tavares were named Second Team All-Pro after tying for the league lead in goal scoring with 51 on the season.
Steenhuis set career highs in goals (51), assists (50) and points (101) on the season. He was named the NLL Overall Player of the Month for February after picking up 38 points (10+28) in four games that month. In addition he was named Overall Player of the Week twice and Offensive Player of the Week three times. Steenhuis set the NLL record for assists (13) and points (17) in a single game against Toronto on February 14. The following week in Toronto on February 20, Steenhuis set the Bandits single-game record with eight goals. This season marked the first time that Steenhuis led the league in goal scoring. He was also named the 2009 All-Star MVP after scoring 13 points (7+6) as he became the all-time All-Star scoring leader with 35 points. It was his sixth All-Star appearance.
Tavares tied his career high with 51 goals as he reached the 50-goal plateau for the second time in his career. Tavares appeared in his eighth All-Star game, and was named Overall Player of the Week for his nine point (6+3) effort against Boston on April 4. Tavares was also named Offensive Player of the Week after turning in a seven point (4+3) night against Portland on March 21. He continued to solidify his hold on the all-time NLL scoring record as he scored his 1,400th career point on a goal at Boston on April 4. He finished the season with 1,420 career points (677+749).
