Swift Current Broncos News Release

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (5-11-1-2) received an outstanding performance from goaltender Isaac Poulter Tuesday night as the 18-year-old Winnipeg native turned aside 48 Regina Pats (3-13-2-0) shots in a 2-1 win.

After surviving an early push from the Pats, Swift Current opened up the scoring. After Hayden Ostir's shot was turned aside, Sergei Alkhimov picked up the rebound behind the net.

His wraparound attempt went through the crease to an open Ethan Regnier who tapped the puck into the open net for his fifth of the year with 8:28 remaining in the period.

After the early flurry from Regina, the Broncos ended up leading in shots after the first period 15-14, and taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The Pats didn't waste much time tying the game in the second period. After a face off win in the Broncos zone, Nikita Sedov took a slap shot from the right point. Zack Smith deflected it in the slot and it went off the post on Poulter's blocker side and into the net just 4:10 into the second.

Both teams had power-play chances in the second, but neither team could connect. The Pats started the third period with 1:33 of power-play time after just eight seconds of four on four following some late penalties by both teams.

The Pats began throwing pucks on net every opportunity they got in the third, but Poulter was equal to the task every time.

Swift Current didn't have much zone time in Regina's end in the third, but they made the best of one of their chances.

After Alex Moar's shot from the point was blocked, Alkhimov picked up the loose puck and circled back towards the blue line.

Before he got there, he spun and fired the puck on net and it eluded Paddock and went through his five hole to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead 8:21 into the period.

It was Poulter's show from then on out as the Broncos were outshot 23-3 in the third, and faced a 6-on-4 power play for the final 1:35, but survived to leave the Brandt Centre with two points and a 2-1 win.

Swift Current quickly returns home to welcome the Lethbrdige Hurricanes to the Innovation Credit Union iPlex Wednesday night for Energy Sector Appreciation night.
