Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports are excited to partner again with St. Joseph's Medical Center for Pink Night, an event to raise awareness for breast cancer. Pink Night will be held on Friday, August 27 during the 7:05 p.m. game against San Jose. The Ports will give $1 from every ticket sold for the Pink Night game to St. Joseph's Foundation Breast Health Services.
"We are really looking forward to Pink Night this year," said Ports Community Relations Manager Margaret Sacchet. "It's always great to be able to partner with St. Joseph's to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. This year it hits even closer to home, since a member of our Ports family has been recovering from breast cancer. Anything we can do to raise awareness will make this all worth it."
During Pink Night, fans can show their support for breast cancer survivors and current patients, and learn more about breast cancer prevention. The Ports players will be wearing special pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game. Jersey auction winners can go on the field and have their jersey autographed following the game. The Ports are also excited to auction off a pink Ports jersey that is autographed by Oakland A's players Dallas Braden, Andrew Bailey, Kurt Suzuki, Trevor Cahill, Cliff Pennington, Mark Ellis, Brad Ziegler and Coco Crisp. All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit St. Joseph's Foundation Breast Health Services. The Ports are excited to introduce new initiatives for this year's Pink Night event. In addition to turning the ballpark pink with balloons, pink-colored food, and pink ribbons painted on the field, the Ports are excited to display a Pink Memorial Wall, with the names of breast cancer patients, survivors and words of encouragement, at the game.
The Ports are selling pink baseballs for the Pink Memorial Wall for $1 at Guest Services at Banner Island Ballpark. All of the funds go to support Pink Night. Fans may purchase the pink baseballs up until Pink Night.
This year, the Ports also are hosting a celebrity home-run-athon prior to the scheduled 7:05 p.m. game. Fans can come enjoy watching the coaching staffs of the Stockton Ports and San Jose Giants, DJ Walker and "Jungle" Jim Wells from KAT Country, plus breast cancer survivors and other celebrities work to hit as many home runs as they can in support of the breast cancer.
The home-run-athon will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thirty participants will have 10 pitches in which to hit as many home runs as possible to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. The Ports encourage their fans to make pledges for home runs. Pledge forms are available at www.stocktonports.com and at Guest Services at Banner Island Ballpark. Fans who would like to participate in the home-run-athon and help raise funds can contact the Ports at (209) 644-1900 for more information.
The Ports are excited to host Pink Night on Friday, August 27 and to show their support for cancer awareness.
