Stockton Ports News Release

(Stockton, CA)—The Stockton Ports Baseball Club staged the world's longest first pitch on opening night 2005. Splash, the Ports new mascot, threw the ball off the mound at Billy Hebert Field, the former home of the Ports, to start the 2.3-mile pitch. More than 800 fans participated in the pitch, organized by Christina Oliver of Judith Buethe Public Relations.

The pitch was tossed out of Billy Hebert Field, through two parks and down major streets in Central Stockton to the new Banner Island Ballpark on Fremont Street next to the Stockton Deepwater Channel. The 800-plus pitchers included children, parents, and grandparents; long-time Ports fans; Little Leaguers; Anunciation School; the Stockton Unified School for Adults; softball enthusiasts, and other individuals and groups.

Spread out approximately every 10 to 20 feet, fans said goodbye to Billy Hebert Field and hello to Banner Island Ballpark with a simple game of catch among community members.

Mike McCarroll, General Manager of the Stockton Ports Baseball Club, commented, "We are ecstatic. The longest first pitch was a home run for all Stockton Ports fans!"
