Stockton Ports News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - A ninth-inning, four-run rally for the Inland Empire 66ers gave them a comeback win over the Ports on Saturday night, in a 5-4 loss for Stockton in game five of the series.

The Ports (20-36) got a great start from Dheygler Gimenez who allowed just one run in six innings of work. Garret Irvin pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning but walked the first batter he faced in the ninth. He would record a strikeout of the next batter he faced, but was replaced by Carlos Guarate.

Guarate struggled in the ninth as he took the loss to drop to 2-4, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks without recording an out. He would walk the first batter he faced before allowing four-straight hits, the last of which gave the 66ers (27-26) a walk-off win.

Stockton used their top-two, late-inning relievers for two innings last night in Blaze Pontes and Pedro Santos, so they were unavailable Saturday. Dallas Woolfolk pitched 1.2 innings in game one, and the Ports want to be careful with the big righty coming off Tommy John surgery, even though he has two saves on the year.

The Ports had the lead and the momentum up until that ninth-inning rally. They scored a run in the first inning when T. J. Schofield-Sam singled to center to plate Colby Thomas and go up 1-0. They'd extend their lead in the fourth when Brennan Milone hit a rocket to left for a no-doubt home run scoring Thomas again who tripled to start the inning. It was Milone's seventh long ball of the season, breaking a tie for the team lead with Thomas.

Henry Bolte singled and stole second right after the home run, and was driven in by Jose Mujica who singled to center. The Ports offense would be held to those four runs the rest of the way, and were kept hitless by lefty Quinton Martinez for three innings who collected the win to improve to 1-1.

The series finale is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. at San Manuel Stadium. The Ports will roll out the reigning California League Pitcher of the Week in right hander Wander Guante (0-2, 6.86 ERA).
