Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Hawks' win on Saturday capped an impressive two months, as the team has been on a tear since the calendar turned to 2015. Over January and February, the Hawks have gone 18-3-2-0 and are just two points behind the Everett Silvertips in the race for first in the U.S. Division with a game in hand. The win over Seattle also extended Portland's lead over third place Seattle to nine points. The Hawks have one game left against Everett and two against Seattle.

Oliver Bjorkstrand made history Saturday when he scored in his 11th straight game, tying the franchise record originally set by Tony Currie in the franchise's inaugural 1976-77 season. He'll have a chance to break the record Friday when the Hawks host the Thunderbirds at the Moda Center. Bjorkstrand's 48 goals leads the WHL, despite 14 fewer games played than the second place goal scorer. He's also second in overall points in the league with 91, six points behind Medicine Hat's Trevor Cox for first place.

Adin Hill was terrific in net for Portland Saturday night in Seattle, tying a season-high with 49 saves. Hill continues to lead the WHL with a .925 save percentage, while ranking fifth with a goals against average of 2.71. He's 26-8-1-0 on the season, and 18-3-1-0 since the start of January.

Friday's game against Seattle will be televised live on ROOT Sports. It will be the second of three television broadcasts for the Hawks, as next Friday's game in Spokane will also be shown on ROOT.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Saturday is the H&R Black Dash For Cash, where lucky contestants will have a chance to scoop up their share of $10,000 in silver dollars in the second intermission. Fans can head to any H&R Block location and enter to win a spot in the contest.
